The first step to getting your license is to enroll in the right cosmetology program. This is where you can gain the skills and knowledge you need to be successful in your career. It’s important to enroll in a program that will meet all the state requirements.

About Our Cosmetology Program

In our program, you can become a cosmetologist in as little as 13 months, depending on the type of scheduling you choose. Our program is 1,800 hours and is designed to provide you with both the theoretical and practical knowledge you’ll need to be successful in the beauty industry. Pass Your Exams

After you successfully graduate from your cosmetology program, it’s time to pass your exams! You’ll need to pass two exams; the Cosmetology Practical Exam and the Cosmetology Theory Exam.

Cosmetology Practical Exam

The practical portion of the exam allows you to show off the skills and knowledge you learned while in school. In this exam, you can expect to be tested on the following:

  • Set up and client protection (15 minutes)
  • Thermal curling (not timed)
  • Haircutting (30 minutes)
  • Chemical wave (20 minutes)
  • Hair color retouch (10 minutes)
  • Foil highlighting (10 minutes)
  • Relaxer retouch (10 minutes)
  • Chemical virgin relaxer (10 minutes)
  • Facial / manicure set-up (15 minutes)
  • Cleansing / facial massage (5 minutes)
  • Manicure (20 minutes)

Cosmetology Theory Exam

This exam has 100 multiple choice questions with 90 minutes to complete. You can expect to be tested on:

  • Infection control and safety (24% of exam questions)
  • Product knowledge and chemistry (5% of exam questions)
  • Implements, tools, and equipment (8% of exam questions)
  • anatomy and physiology (27% of exam questions)
  • Hair care and services (22% of exam questions)
  • Skin care and services (7% of exam questions)
  • Nail care and services (7% of exam questions)
