4 Tips For Setting Yourself Up For Success in Beauty School

Considering one of our beauty programs at Raphael’s School of Beauty Culture? We can’t wait to welcome you to the family! Before you begin, it’s important to have clear expectations so you can set yourself up to complete your program of choice.

Here are a few ways you can prepare and set yourself up for success in beauty school!

Meet The Prerequisites

First and foremost, there are some basic requirements you need to meet to enroll in beauty school:

  • You must have a high school diploma or have passed your high school equivalency (GED) exam to enroll in beauty school.
  • You must be at least 16 years of age.

Choose The Right Schedule

We’ve made scheduling flexibility a priority so we can set up our students for success. When it comes to starting beauty school, it’s up to you to choose a schedule that fits into your life. For example, our evening cosmetology classes at the Niles location (Tuesday-Thursday from 4 pm to 9 pm) are ideal for those with full-time jobs or children who aren’t in school.

If you work part-time, have children in school, or simply have a more open schedule, our daytime cosmetology classes run Tuesday-Saturday from 9 am until late afternoon or early evening.

Those who choose our daytime classes can expect to graduate in as little as 13 months, while those who enroll in evening classes can graduate in as little as 28 months. Hands-on learning and working with real guests* is an essential part of beauty school training. Students in any of our programs must be able to commit to attending in-person classes.

Talk With us About Financial Aid

A common concern when it comes to starting beauty school is the cost of tuition. Raphael’s School of Beauty Culture offers financial aid and scholarships to those who qualify. We want everyone to have a chance to complete their beauty education, which is why we’ve worked to make financial aid and/or scholarships available for every program.

If finances are a concern for you, let us know as soon as possible. Our financial aid officers are here to help you develop a plan that works for you. We’ve been in the industry for over 50 years and know how essential financial aid can be. Talk to us about your financial needs and we’ll do whatever we can to support you.

Set Future Goals For Yourself

Chances are, you’re going to beauty school to eventually pursue a career you’re passionate about. Maybe you’re a high school graduate or someone making a career shift. Whatever the case, pursuing a beauty education is a big deal.

Take time to think about your goals. We’d even encourage physically writing them down on your phone or laptop, or even in a physical notebook. Where do you want to be after graduation? Where do you see yourself in five years? We know these questions might seem cheesy or cliche, but they’re important when investing in yourself and your education!

Communicate and Ask For Support

When you’re going to school while working and/or caring for a family, there’s a whole lot to juggle. This is why communication is key. Whether it’s your boss or partner, let the people in your non-school life know what’s going on with you. This way, they can help you navigate scheduling conflicts, like work hours, transportation, kids’ pickup schedules, or any other family obligations.

Our staff and faculty are busy people too, so if we aren’t aware of your concerns, we can’t help you. And we WANT to help you succeed in any way possible. If you’re honest and upfront about any concerns from the get-go, we’ll be there to support you the whole way through. At Raphael’s, our doors are always open. Keeping an open dialogue will help you feel less stressed and in turn, help with your future success!
