Scholarships can be a great source of funding for your education. They are generally sponsored by an organization that would like to help students with a common interest pay for school. For example, the Sally’s Beauty Supply sponsors a scholarship each year to help students who would like to attend a program in a branch of cosmetology. Scholarships are based on certain criteria; some are merit-based; meaning the organization that sponsors the scholarship will look at grades, talent, skills, etc. in order to determine who the scholarship is given to. Since there are many different scholarships funded by many different organizations, they could be looking at many different things. In order to be considered for scholarships, you must first apply. What each scholarship application requires can vary from award to award. Some will need basic information and for you to write an essay. Some may ask for a letter of recommendation or for you to make a video. It is important to read each application carefully to make sure you submit what it requires.
You can find scholarships to apply for by searching online, talking to community organizations, or for high school students, speaking with your guidance counselor. When searching for scholarships, it is important to make sure that the scholarship will apply to the program of your choice. For example, the Alice Madden Barton Scholarship will apply to any cosmetology or barber school. Though these scholarships are geared toward programs offered at Raphael’s, we are able to take others as well as long as the specific scholarship allows. Raphael’s is of course giving away a full scholarship to the program of your choice. Here are a few other scholarships we found to get you started!
