Everything You Need to Know Before You Start Esthetics School

If you’re reading this, you are probably interested in esthetics but are hesitant about going to school. That’s understandable! There are so many schools to choose from and it can be hard to tell if their esthetics program is a good fit for you. Sometimes you don’t know what questions to ask.

In our advanced esthetician program at Raphael’s School of Beauty Culture, we want to help you find the answers you need to start your journey in the beauty industry.

To help make things easier for you, we’ve created this comprehensive guide. It’ll tell you what you need to know before joining an esthetics program. Keep reading to learn more or reach out to us with any questions! Our representatives would love to hear from you.

1. What Do You Learn in an Esthetics Program?

A big part of any esthetics program is learning the basics of skincare and different body treatments. These include many of the treatments you might see at a spa or salon. In Raphael’s advanced esthetician program, you can learn the following skills and techniques:

  • Body Rubs
  • Body Polishes
  • Relaxation Massages
  • Make-Up Application
  • Dermaplaning
  • Threading
  • Chemical Peels
  • Oxygeneo Facials
  • Microdermabrasions
  • Lash Extension

Keep in mind that esthetic knowledge is just one part of being a good esthetician. You also need to know about management, healthy working environments, and local regulations. Our advanced esthetician program knows this. That’s why our curriculum also includes:

  • Salon Operations and Communications Skills
  • Cosmetology Laws and Rules
  • Public Health and Safety

Learning those skills alongside esthetic techniques can help make you a well-rounded esthetician. That’s why we cover everything from facials to filing payroll taxes! Whether you want to work in a spa or be your own boss, we can help start your journey.

2. What Are the Physical Demands of Esthetics?

Learning esthetics goes beyond sitting at a creaky desk and listening to an instructor lecture for hours on end. In our advanced esthetician program, you can practice what you learn.

In esthetics, you will work with your arms and hands a lot. You’ll need decent dexterity to perform the many treatments. You will move around a lot to work with different clients, so it’s important to consider your endurance and energy levels.

It’s also important to have solid people skills. It helps if you enjoy meeting new people and spending time with them. Clients go to estheticians to feel relaxed and beautiful. That goes beyond just treatments! If you’re a people person and want to connect with new people, our esthetics program could be a great fit for you!

3. What Resources Will You Have?

As you develop these skills, it’s important to have educators that want to see you succeed. They can be a crucial resource during and after school! It is also important to have educators who represent the diverse student body. Our esthetic educators come from all walks of life.

Each educator has a unique set of skills they’ve gained through their experiences in the industry. They tap into these qualities to help you learn. Plus, many of our educators still work part-time in salon settings. This can help them inform you of the most recent developments in esthetics, which you could apply to a future career.

In your classes at Raphael’s, you could work with brands like Dermalogica, Amber, Satin Smooth, DermaMed, Kristiina Alexandria, and Glo-Minerals. These are brands that many salons and spas use every day. You can develop valuable expertise of these brands, which could help in your future career.

On your first day of our advanced esthetician program, you will receive your books, manikin, apron, and name tag. After your first 80 hours of attendance, you will receive your Glo-Minerals mineral makeup and Dermalogica kits. After 180 hours, you’ll get your iPad and access codes. With these resources, we hope to provide you with the best chance of succeeding in your esthetics program!
